Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. Although dentures may take some getting used to, modern dentistry provides a natural looking and comfortable alternative to the loss of teeth. We will look at the following types of dentures in detail below:
Conventional Full Dentures
Immediate Full Dentures
Partial Dentures
Conventional full dentures begin with lll of your teeth being removed. Your gum tissue then goes through a month(s) long healing process without teeth in place. Once the extraction site is healed, your custom dentures will be put in place. Immediate full dentures begin with measurements so that your dentures can be fitted perfectly to your mouth. Your teeth are then removed. After this, your dentures are placed in the mouth directly after removal. Unlike conventional dentures, you will spend no time without teeth. Partial dentures are also a non permanent option that can be taken in and out.
Common Questions
How long will my dentures last?
There are several factors that will affect the lifespan of your dentures. They will wear down and become discolored with use and age just like natural teeth. Your mouth will also change as you age, and your dentures may need to be refitted from time to time in order to match your mouth shape. In general, most people can expect to wear a set of dentures for 5 to 7 years before they need to be replaced.
Will I be able to eat normally with dentures?
It will likely take you some time to adjust to chewing and eating with your new dentures, but over time you should be able to eat most foods normally. Always check with your dentist if any foods are causing you discomfort while chewing or if you are unsure of whether or not you should eat something.
